From 2009 to 2016 Brown & Co have been the management company for Drax Power Ltd owner and operator of Drax Power Station, Selby, North Yorkshire, UK. Drax is one of the UK’s largest producers of renewable power and Europe’s single largest decarbonisation project with 4,000 MW of electrical generation capacity now running 70% of generation from biomass pellets.
The management company role covered all UK biomass procurement of miscanthus and agricultural straws. Managing on an annual basis the miscanthus harvest of 15,000 tonnes and straw from merchants and farmers to supply a 100,000 tonnes pelleting plant.
The work covered grower contract management, sustainability data collection and recording, promotion and finding new growers/suppliers, development and implementation of a demonstration energy crop farm and included a one off review of UK feedstock supply potential.
Brown & Co are currently engaged in assisting a private client review the feasibility and implementation of establishing a biomass feedstock supply chain for a 2nd generation cellulosic bio-ethanol bio-refinery. Annual requirement will be 300,000 tonnes of feedstock principally from agricultural straws and miscanthus.
